Picture it. Summer. Spokane, 2013. Me, in my flower-bed style vegetable garden.
I have decided to harvest a gourd, with a mind to dry it, paint it, etc.
Since they’re small, I take two. (This is a family joke.)
I bring them inside, whack away at them on the kitchen counter, and discover….
That they’re not gourds at all, but spaghetti squash, with a long way to go before they’re ripe.
So they wind up in the compost bin.
Like I said, you have to be smarter than the squash.
On another note, BIG SKY WEDDING is out today! Yeehaw!

Well, at least the spaghetti squash continues to serve a useful purpose.
That must be the reason that my mom, aunts and grandma always wrote the name of the vegetable at each end of the rows they planted. Actually, before planting each year, they all made a map of the garden to decide what to plant where. Apparently you need to mix it up each year. Who knew? Not a city girl like me!

Spaghetti Squash is actually quite good. Whatever pasta sauce you use goes well with it.

Hahaha, sounds like something I would do. In fact I did…somebody gave me a bag of what I thought was zucchini squash, which I love! Turns out they were cucumbers, which I don’t like! The whole bag of them are still in the pasture – the horses won’t touch em, nor will raccoons, squirrels, possum…? Oh well, I appreciated the thought.
Blessings,

Did not get to go to town till this afternoon, Went straight to the book section. OH NO. I COULDN’T FIND THE NEW RELEASES! DID WALMART DO AWAY WITH SOMETHING ELSE I NEED!!! Just about to through myself on the floor and have a 3 year old kicking and screaming fit when I noticed I was in the wrong isle! When I left the store I had your book, and two other new releases. After all I needed a reward for being so afraid I would have to drive all the way across town to get Big Sky Wedding. Growing older is a barrel of laughs. God Bless and Angels watch over you.

Had Big Sky Wedding waiting for my Kindle when I got up yesterday. I started reading around 10 a.m. and couldn’t put it down. Finished before bedtime! It was really good. I’m glad that Brylee got such a great guy. Can we “assume” that you will let us know what’s up with Landry Sutton? And what about the mysterious Ria? Will those questions be answered in the next Big Sky? Love all your books, Linda. Keep writing.
Blessings,
Pat Poynor

My Mom always liked spaghetti squash with butter, salt and pepper on it. Others like it with pasta sauce; me, not a fan.
My friends sister is an artist and she somehow hollows out and dries the gourds and then paints them. She sells lots of them every year at our annual craft fair.
I’m betting Brylee’s bracelet will be as beautiful as Casey’s necklace!
Happy day friends!
