Today’s foray into the world of jury-duty was brief, composed mostly of waiting. With twelve of my peers (there was one alternate), I trooped into the courtroom and took my assigned place in the jury box. We were sworn in, and given brief instructions by the judge. Then one witness, a forensic scientist, took the stand. We listened. We were dismissed again. We waited, careful not to discuss the case, and engaged in a few rounds of phone-trivia. Presently, the judge came in, sans robes this time, and informed us that the prosecutor and the defense attorney had reached an agreement and we could go home. This happened around noon.
I drove home, after debating a few other options with myself–I could use another pedicure, now that the weather is nice enough for open-toed shoes–or simply go to Target or Hobby Lobby or Barnes and Noble, all favorite haunts. Since I didn’t really need anything–except maybe the pedicure–I decided to go home instead. I was greeted by a yapping Yorkie, eager for a walk. Since the Yorkie rules around here, we took the walk. Once we were back from the barn–usually as far as we venture on any given day–I snarfed up some lunch and took a nap.
It was bliss.
I finished Marilynn Robinson’s wonderful book, “Gilead”, and loved it. Now, I’ve started another of her stories, called “Home.” I’ve done 30 minutes on my exercise bike and eaten a good dinner of roast chicken, green beans, etc.
Next on my agenda: a bath and more of “Home”.
Life is good.

Glad jury duty went fast and you got to go home and get your exercise in. I walk my dogs right away in the morning, I have to walk them in the morning before it gets too hot (I live in Texas and one of my dogs is on prednisone and it makes her sensitive to the heat). Our dogs also rule the house they always get dinner first.

Will you be at the RT convention in Dallas next week? would love to meet you face to face.
Planning to attend the Book Fair next Sat. May 16.
after the days I’ve had I need time for me. My son (19) was working on his F250 fuel system, and when it kicked in he was going down a back country road, just before the curve. Hence he missed the curved and parked it between two trees, totally the truck. By the grace of God he has no broken bones, and only minor bruising but a ton of pain. Considering he has L3-5 fused with rods, I’m feeling quite blessed that he is walking today.

I have been called for Jury duty twice in my life and each time I was never picked. One was a domestic violence case and since I lived with domestic violence in my first marriage didn’t feel I could be partial. The other I never made it to be picked – just sat around the court room all day. I have avoided it my a little over 20 years now – knock on wood. I would hate to jinx myself.
Looking forward to a nice quiet Mothers’ Day weekend with 2 of my girlfriends (also mothers) at the river house my friend owns. No chores, no kids, no spouse, no dogs – nothing to do but lay in the soon and listen to audio books. HAPPY MOTHERS’ DAY!!!!!!

Yes, Life is good. But does it ever bother you about these “deals” the defendant and prosecutors agree to? Is justice being fully served? Or do we have too much of leniency in cases just to get offenders moved through the process and free up jail or prison space? I personally know of a case where the offender is guilty of spousal abuse (multiple counts), violation of probation, motor vehicle theft, counterfeiting US currency, manufacturing meth with intent to sell and selling drugs – and he will only have to serve 5 years? For all that? That is the deal he agreed to with the prosecutor – Give me a Break! That is NOT enough! Sorry to vent…

Whew, that was a close one. Courtroom scenes are great on TV, but when “you” have to decide another’s fate…..that is a totally different situation !!!

After having lunch with best friends yesterday, I went to Barnes and Noble (one of my favorite haunts, too) to buy a Gratitude Journal. I found a beautiful journal that has handmade pages. They are beautiful and have a wonderful feel. I put my first entries in it last night. I love the idea.
