I do seem to be in Slow-Mo mode today–in fact, I’ve been that way all week. Not sick, not especially tired, but just not very energetic, either. I’m thinking it might be the weather–we get some lovely sunshine now and then, but the sky has been overcast, too, and the barometric pressure is surely low. Being ultra-sensitive to energy, I feel these things. My get-up-and-go got up and meandered off someplace, evidently.
Oh, well. It’s pretty much all good around here anyhow.
I AM enjoying the Molly MacRea mystery–and THREE SOULS. That’s one to curl up with, on an overcast afternoon, and get lost in.
Does anyone else have a book they’d like to recommend?
When I spoke of the one-comes-in-one-goes-out rule, I wasn’t including favorite books. I keep those, too–in fact, I have several different editions of each of Dorothy Dunnett’s wonderful historical novels, as well as the Harry Potter books and Mary Stewart’s Camelot series. Some books are definitely meant to be re-read, and I’m honored that some of you include mine in your collection of keepers.
There are other Total Keepers, too, upon my shelves. All the books on gemstones and crystals, Laura Ingalls Wilder’s Little House series, Civil War histories and certain biographies, especially those by David McCullough, such as 1776 and TRUMAN. I do believe we form life-long bonds with certain books, especially novels. Who could forget (or give up) Seton’s KATHERINE? Or LITTLE WOMEN? Or JANE EYRE? These books are actual places, it seems to me, landscapes of the imagination where one can take refuge over and over again, and come away with some new insight or shining image every time.
Dorothy Dunnett’s books are so multi-layered that I can read them repeatedly and invariably find something I missed before. Her scenes are so vivid, her characters so REAL.
What a colorless world this would be, without books.
Without flowers.
Without pets.
And certainly without all of you.
Truly, I am blessed.

I cannot even think of life without books. How boring life would be.

Hmm I just finished up Shadow Spell by Nora Roberts. It’s the second in her latest trilogy so will have to wait til October for the next one. I also recently read her In the Garden trilogy; Blue Dahlia, Black Rose and Red Lily, which being older had all 3 books out and ready to read like pretty maids all in a row!
I had not read her trilogy stories in quite a few years, but am very much enjoying them again now.

Life would be very incomplete with out books…..
One of the first books my grandmother recommended to me was “Except for me and Thee” by Jessamyn West. A lovely story about settling out west. The other were the series of books beginning with “All Creatures Great and Small” by James Herriot. I still have my copies she gave me and pull them out from time to time!
I’m having the same issues over the last 2 weeks with just not having energy and I’m usually a get up and go kinda gal. Must be something in the air! Hang in there and wish you the best!

I can’t imagine life without books. I love Civil War romance and yes I have my Gone With the Wind on my keeper shelf. It is the book that got me started reading romance. I have been mowing the lawn today so very busy. I am tired now so just going to do a little computer stuff and spend the rest of the day reading and relaxing.

I would just love to have a new Linda Lael Miller book to read and the thing about it, I don’t have long to wait. Well said Linda about the flowers, pets, books and all the people.

I think one of my favorite re reads are Julie Garwoods for the roses as it has the west and England in it with a mystery thrown in. I also have re read your spring water series over and over too

You would like anything by CJ Box with his Joe Pickett series, Craig Johnson and his Walt Longmire series, Michael Connelly and his Harry Bosch series.
Margaret Coel and her Wind River Indian series, or her two Katherine McLeod books that I was a reference for.
Also Amanda Cabot who is from Cheyenne and write Christian historical romances or Mary Gilgannon, who is also from Cheyenne and does romances of all types. Her books are eBooks, but she has a new paperback coming out soon

God bless and best wishes for a less dreary day. Try wearing yellow it really brightens up your day.

I forgot to mention Tina Ann Forkner and Joanne Kennedy both romance writers in Cheyenne, as well as Michael Shay who writes short stories.

Linda, I recommend Diana Gabaldon, Outlander Series. Her talent is magnificent and without giving anything away, gemstones play a huge part of her stories. Oh and, don’t fight it, get cozy and enjoy the cosy weather!

I highly recommend The Orphan Train by Christina Baker Kline and The Collectors by Nora Roberts!

1,000 Whie Women by James Ferguson, the Journals of Mary Dodd. She was sent with other women from the East by the federal government to assist the Indians in assimilating into the white man ‘s ways.

I love to re-read my favorite books! I can’t even count how many times I’ve re-read “A Wanted Man”, “The Rustler”, etc…(LOVE those Yarbro men!), and of course, the McKettricks…the Creeds…the list goes on!! I consider my favorite books to be old friends; and who doesn’t love to visit old friends??!

If you like historical fiction, I recommend Roseanna M. White’s Culper Ring Series about the use of spies during the American Revolution, the War of 1812, and the Civil War. Includes 3 novels and 2 novellas (as eBooks). (2013-2014)
Or, a littler fair is M. C. Beaton’s Six Sister Series – Minerva through to Fredrica (about six sister growing up in the Edwardian era, their misadventures, and pursuits for romance. M.C. Beaton is one of Marion Chesney Gibbon’s pen names. (1982-1985)

I have the same problems when the barometric pressure is low. I feel a bit depress plus lethargic when it gets too low. One of my favorite books is Outlander by Diana Galbaldon.

I can understand the slo-mo syndrome. I’ve been experiencing it myself lately. I agree about keeping certain books. There are some books that are meant to be reread. I keep all of yours. A few others I keep are Jodi Thomas, Nora Roberts, Karen Robard, Sandra Hill, and Heather Graham. There are others but these are the top ones. I’ve reread so many books and enjoy the voyage as much as I did the first time. Have a great night. It’s raining here again.

Books to keep always are anything Jane Austin, I also like Vicki Lewis Thompson, she write some fun stuff and some great western romance. I recently found Valerie Bowman, and so far she has proven to be a great writer. The disappointment comes when you find someone and they totally change their style.

I live in the great state of Texas, where our weather is actually bipolar, yesterday sunshine in the mid 80’s today low 70’s and thunderstorms, possible tornado in the area. So moving my daughter home for the summer from UNT was great fun in the rain today.

I agree with you on authors that you go to time & time again to read. I once read that you can see 40 shades of green in Ireland. That is a place that I love to read about. Someday I hope to get there. My son went last year with his girlfriend & he said Mom, I am going to find a way to send you there. It was amazing.
I love flowers & I know my kids will send me some for Mother’s Day.
I look forward to see what kind they are going to send this year.
Thanks for writing books that I love to read & read again!!

I too would be lost without books. I read mostly on my Kindle now for two reasons I am losing my sight and Kindle print can be enlarged and I can get a LOT of books on it (I use it for reading only so don’t lose much room to other things.
Have a GREAT week and I hope your energy comes back soon.

I am almost 1/2 way through Don’t Let Me Go by Catherine Ryan Hyde. The characters are dealing with very difficult things in their own life an yet are helping each other. It is breaking my heart and inspiring me at the same time.
I also recommend The All You Can Dream Buffet by Barbara O’Neal. It is about 4 women that become very close friends through their blogs.

I have those “slug days” off and on, too. The last two weeks,
however, have been energizing ( as much as my normal low
energy level can get) for me. I think getting out and doing
yard work, gardening, horse grooming in the nice weather has
a huge impact on how I feel. Monday the vet came and did
the shots, exam, etc for the horses, and yesterday, the cat
visited the vet for the same stuff. As wind and rain is planned
for Spokane tomorrow, I plan to do inside things. Maybe a
little drawing or crafting. I really enjoyed the Peabody series
by Elizabeth Peters, starting with “Crocodile on the Sandbank”.
Very intriguing with mystery and great humor. I picked up
your novel “The Bridegroom” a couple days ago at Yokes and
can’t wait to start it. I’m close to having read most of your
books, so keep writing! I really love your blogs.

Other than the usuals by you, Robyn Carr, Laura Taylor, Toni Blake I recently ran across Yellowstone Heart Song by Peggy L. Henderson; some time travel and a lot of information about life in Yellowstone before it became a national park. There is, of course, a romance.
We wait until the end of this month for the Marriage Pact…right?
Hugs for you!

Oh, Linda! Funny story about books that I just have to share with you. Years ago a friend of mine was trying to get me into altering books into art journals. I told her I couldn’t rip out pages or fold them or paint them so she decided to bring me the pages she had torn out of a book so I could play with them. She tore pages out of Jane Eyre! I think I screamed! I was mortified that anyone could destroy Jane Eyre! She hated the book so didn’t mind doing awful things to it. I could not descecrate the pages even though they were torn out by someone else!

I so agree. You are one of only a select few who stay in my library. Your books are so well written. I can re read them and found something new. Thank you.

I too am moving slowly this morning, however my reason is because I am enjoying my grandkids. After undergoing breast cancer & chemo last year I am enjoying life at a slower pace currently. A special Thanks to you Linda for your books were my salvation during those times and continue today. I love all your books!! Some of the older ones were a little harder to get, but I found them! Blessing to you dear lady.

I love to reread books and always find something I missed the first time through. That’s what happened as I was rereading Yankee Wife yesterday. You were writing about me in this passage: “For all Lydia’s good intentions, she has a fascination with books akin to a drunk’s addiction to liquor. She loved just to look at books, touching their bindings, sampling just a paragraph or two from the ones that proved purely irresistible.”
I think that’s why I don’t use my e-reader much. There is just something about holding a book!

Hi Linda….you know I don’t post….but HAD to recommend a book to you….. “The Boys in the Boat” by Daniel James Brown. About the UW crew team going to the Olympics. Riveting!!!!

I have great difficulty in replacing books. On occasion someone will suggest a book that I don’t read, or, quite a few years ago I belonged to a book of the month club and received books I probably wouldn’t have purchased from the shelf. Those types of books have been the only ones to leave my house, and honestly they are very few and far between. Once I read a book I feel a connection and cannot bear to part with it. It becomes a part of me. Which is also why I have difficulty reading books on my Kindle Fire. I usually download free books and hope that I can get to them, eventually. But I have downloaded books that I also have the paper edition, because who knows when the e-reader will quit?
Congrats on the weight loss. Keep up the good work. You are an inspiration

Take about 1000 Mg for a few days and you’ll be good as new. I take one every day now.
I too love Outlander, if you haven’t read it, do. You’ll love it.
