Ah, yes.  Christmas Eve.  My very favorite day of the whole year!

The tree is lit, the carols are set to play, the fireplace to crackle.  We even got a little skiff of snow during the night, just to set the mood.  :)  For me, this is a magical day, full of happy memories.  Mom and Dad always made sure we had the BEST Christmases, their very limited budget notwithstanding.  Our handmade stockings bulged with goodies to delight the heart, and there was always an orange in the toe.  Mom and I would go to church on Christmas Eve, and when the service let out at midnight, our little town was still, the trees were laced with diamonds, the sky bursting with stars; indeed, the whole world seemed to sparkle.  Thanks for that, Mom, and for so much more.

I’m off to weigh in, then Wendy and I are heading up to visit Mom/Gramma and deliver gifts.  The wrapping is done–mostly.

Because of my dear friends and family, a lot of little puppies and kitties will be munching kibble, and nothing could be better than knowing that.  Christmas is about love, after all, and I feel so blessed to have so many caring, generous folks in my life.  As we celebrate the Gift of All Gifts, given one long-ago night, when He was born in a humble stable, may His Peace live in our hearts, I’ll be thinking of each and every one of you.

So, from all of us on the Triple L, two-legged and four-legged alike, have a lovely holiday season.

    Love Came Down At Christmas

    Love came down at Christmas,
    Love all lovely, love divine;
    Love was born at Christmas,
    Star and angels gave the sign.

    Worship we the Godhead,
    Love incarnate, love divine;
    Worship we our Jesus:
    But wherewith for sacred sign?

    Love shall be our token,
    Love shall be yours and love be mine,
    Love to God and to all men,
    Love for plea and gift and sign.

    Poem by Christina Georgina Rossetti

    Happy Christmas to you too Linda and all at the Triple L. Though we have none of us ever met I feel we are friends. We also share similar memories of childhood in hard times with home made everything’s except for one bought present for each of us. And like you an orange and an apple and nuts and a shiny new year penny in the toe of our stockings, plus all the goodies our parents could make, knit, sew or stuff. Magical memories. And it all began at Midnight Mass and the walk home in the dark with only the stars to see us home. Blackout still throughout Europe.
    Blessings to you all.

    For the ones familiar with Norma Stanforth, a very good Linda fan…I called the nursing home where she now stays, and all they could tell me is that she isn’t there, so in case she is back in the hospital, please say some prayers for her.

    I don’t fear the worst because the lady said she’d give her my message, if she sees her, when she comes back.

    But, she needs all the prayers from Linda and Linda fans she can get.

    I loved Christmas in our small town. The town Christmas tree seemed so beautiful to me. I remember sitting in the church waiting for santa to come. The lights going by on main street making shadows on the frosted glass windows. I was so thrilled to see him and scared at the same time! You would get a little bag of candy and an orange–wonderful times!

    Merry Christmas Linda! I too have wonderful memories of childhood Christmases on the farm and midnight mass with snow on the ground. Our parents didn’t have much money, but me and my four brothers and sisters would always have a toy, pajamas, a doll for the girls and farm toys for the boys. We lived in an old two story farmhouse with an oil burner. My older sister and I had our bedroom on the second floor. It was always so cold, but we would peek through the grate in the floor to see if Santa had arrived. When we saw he had we would sneak down the stairs and wake up our younger brothers and tell them Santa Claus came. My mom told me after I became a parent that she and dad would listen to us play and giggle in the middle of the night while they pretended to be asleep. Memories of Christmas I’ll never forget. Merry Christmas to everyone!

    I love reading about other families Christmas traditions and how their Christmas has been. I think about Christmas when I was a kid and Santa would always leave us a plate of fruit and candy. Due to our health, my husband and I don’t decorate much if any, but we enjoyed very much watching our 3 year old granddaughter open her presents and holding our 1 month old grandson. I guess she didn’t miss the Christmas tree this year. LOL Thank you for your blogs, I enjoy reading them and look forward to many more. Have a wonderful New Year!

    Today we drove home from Everett and my thoughts were quiet in my mind, of all 19 in just our daughters families, gifts piled high, kids laughing, the wonderful food, the Christmas Eve service at the Trinity Episcopal church with communion and candles, time spend with our sweet girls. Loved every minute of it. Hope yours was merry and bright. Blessings

    I share so many of those same memories! One of my favorite childhood memories was the town Christmas tree after the school program each year when Santa would arrive and hand out the sacks filled with treats to all the children. I wonder if they still do that in Northport?
    Hoping you had a lovely Christmas and that 2015 is going to be filled with wonderful stories that you will share with each of us! Looking forward to watching your works come to life on the television this year!

    my first comment to you is actually a question I just finish reading twice one of my favorites books that you wrote A Wanted Man story about Rowdy Rhodes and Lark Morgan. I loved their story. My question is have you written a story about his brother Gideon and little Lydia I wonder if you wrote a book of their story of them together or separate. If so let me know please. I love all your books that I have read so far and it’s been a lot of them. Hope to hear from you….. thanks
