Try, try again. There will be a new giveaway every week, beginning on Monday, ending on Friday.
This week’s winners are Sandra S. and Mary Adams. Sandra and Mary, there have been some glitches with Jenni’s computer. If you have sent your snail mail info, please send it again to firstname.lastname@example.org. Soon as we have your addresses, your books will go out.
I’m loving this crisp fall weather, even when the sky is overcast. The garden is fading away slowly, though there are still tomatoes, squash (always squash), and plenty of zinnias and daisies. The corn stalks are preparing to serve as decorations outside the front door, and the sunflowers are nearly gone. The whole process fascinates me–we live in a magical world, don’t we? So many perfect cycles, so many mysteries!
And I do love me a good mystery, so I’m still holding off on finishing up “W is for Wasted”–I’m reading Rob Bell’s “What We Talk About When We Talk About God”, and loving it. I first spotted the title in the latest issue of “O” magazine, where Oprah raved. When Oprah raves, I read–most of the time, anyway. (Some of her stuff is just too depressing for me, and she seems to have a real aversion to happy endings.) She’s right about this one, though, folks–it’s a winner–lots of scientific stuff in the beginning, but clearly explained, and Bell has a great sense of humor. (Having described how many skin cells the average body sheds in a single day, the author added dryly, “Feel free to vacuum more.” I have passed this tidbit on to Mary Ann, who does most of that sort of stuff. She just rolled her eyes.)
The art experiments continue–happily, we have a new part-time ranch hand, Kat–and she’s an organizational wiz. I’ve actually got surfaces downstairs, in the the craft room, and I’m officially out of the running for an LLM segment on “Hoarders: Buried Alive”. Hoo-ha!!! (Picture me pumping a fist in the air.)
I can’t stand to watch that particular show, actually. The lady with the stagnate water and a whole lot of dead fish in her acquarium did me in. I can only stand so much reality at once–and there’s no shortage of the stuff as far as I can tell.
As for the “real” housewives of wherever, don’t get me started. Some people have no dignity at all.
The programs I do like include: “Celebrity Ghost Stories”, “Long Island Medium” and “My Ghost Story, Caught on Tape”. I don’t watch a lot of television–I get bored sitting still, per my rampant ADD–but on weekends I like to have QVC or the ID Channel playing while I do about ten other things. Since they sell a lot of gadgets on QVC, and I LOVE gadgets, the UPS person stops by often. As for the ID Channel, well, some of the crime shows on that network are grisly enough to make me rethink the whole stinky acquarium thing. “Deadly This” and “Deadly That”–good heavens. I’m rapidly approaching crime-show overload.
I plan to cook this weekend, do some art, read a bit and, perhaps, shop for groceries.
This, my friends, is the exciting life of a writer.
Be blessed, be strong, be brave and always, always…
