February 6, 19– was the greatest day of my life, because daughter Wendy was born. She came into the world squawling and a touch on the blue side, in a hospital in Klamath Falls, Oregon, and she’s been the best thing that ever happened to me, people-wise, since that day. She’s smart, she’s beautiful, she’s funny, and, best of all, she has a good, compassionate heart. I do believe she’s even fonder of animals than I am–of course, some of the credit for that goes to her father, my ex. Animals are just nuts about that man, as are small children. We’ve been divorced for so long–happily, on both sides–that we’re both over the anger and bitterness; he’s proud of my career and I’m delighted that he’s remarried to a lady I like very much–but I digress. I seldom mention Rick, but it seems appropriate on the day our little girl celebrates a birthday, so there you go.
Wendy (named for Peter Pan’s Wendy) is definitely at the top of my gratitude list, along with numerous other blessings.
On another subject, I’ve chosen a winner for last week’s contest, but she has to be notified before I can post her name, so watch this space. Jenni will send an email as soon as she gets back from the first of her twice-daily adventures with Bernice. (These usually consist of hanging out in the barn, trying (without success, thank heaven) to catch mice, and sometimes exploring the stalls, if the horses are out. Sometimes, though, the Porky Yorkie goes renegade and wants to circle the pasture fence or visit Mary Ann and Larry’s house next door instead of following the usual routine.)
Today is a writing day, as well as Wendy’s birthday. As of today, I’ll be just three chapters from finishing “Big Sky Wedding.” To clarify–one comment mentioned confusion, here’s how it goes. “Big Sky Summer” comes out in June, and “Big Sky Wedding” in September. After that, there will be one more Parable/Three Trees book, “Big Sky Secrets”, and I’m not exactly sure when that one is being released. I’ll let you know, though, you can be certain of that.
What’s next, after the Big Sky series? Three brand new trilogies, set in Wyoming this time, and all about cowboys and their spirited ladies.
Can you believe I get paid for this?
Next week’s contest question: If you could go back in time and meet any person in history, who would it be and why did you choose them?
That’s it for now. Let’s make God smile today by encouraging someone and/or doing a random act of kindness, be it large or small, and keep the whole thing a secret.
