I needed some cheering up. That’s my excuse for buying 1) an Elvis Presley piggy bank, complete with golden sunglasses and 2) a pair of bunny slippers. (I did need new slippers.) I laugh every time I look at the bank, let alone drop change through the slot, and the slippers are not only funny, they’re comfortable. My daughter did warn me, however, that Margie and Lil, my grand-dogs, might mistake them for toys and try to run off with my feet.
Life is full of risk.
The winners who would have been announced yesterday, if it hadn’t been a holiday, are Marge Dominic and Eriko. Congratulations, both of you. The new contest is underway now–two winners will be chosen at random, notified by Miss Jen, my niece/assistant, and announced right here next Monday. Or Tuesday. All you need to do to enter is comment, and you’re in.
I’ve got some very exciting things coming up–I’ll be traveling to Dodge City, Kansas, the weekend of September 25-27, to attend the 60th Anniversary of my dad’s all-time favorite TV series, GUNSMOKE. The festivities will be held at the Boot Hill Casino, where I’ll be signing copies of my soon-to-be-released hardcover, CHRISTMAS IN MUSTANG CREEK. My good friends Buck and Goldie Taylor will be in attendance, along with Burt Reynolds and Bruce Boxleitner! I’m so excited, as you can imagine. There will be pictures aplenty, I promise, and I’ll tell you all about the experience when I get back. In October, I’m returning to Gettysburg for a week of research, and in November, I’ll be going on a cruise sponsored by a major book retailer. More details on that later.
That’s the news for now, my friends. Thanks for being so patient with this beleaguered blogger.

I do so wish I could be in Dodge City in a couple of weeks. Burt Reynolds, Bruce Boxleitner and Linda Lael Miller, can you say Heaven !!!! Truly, two very handsome men and my favorite author, who could ask for more. Well, maybe some cash for the slots in the casino, but I’d be happy even with that.
Thanks for blogging Linda, I’ve missed you.

Hi Linda, Love the things you bought. It would be funny if when you put coins in your piggy bank is sing a little Elvis tune. I hope your granddogs don’t take your new slippers as toys. Sounds like you are going to be a very busy lady with all your travels. Have a great time.

Congratulations to the winners. I would so love a pair of bunny slippers. Lol. I’m also jealous of the Gunsmoke celebration. I loved that show. Have fun.

I know what your daughter means. My grand-pup loved my husbands UT Horned steer slippers. He eventually got the horns off the steer before the slippers wore out completely.

Congratulations to Marge Dominic and Eriko. Enjoy your win, ladies.
Linda, I hope you enjoy your bunny slippers. I’ve been saying, for years, that if your going to give me a B/D and Christmas present, (2 days apart), put them in 2 packages, even if it is a pack of gum, just divide it before giving it to me. One year, at work, some friends gave me an elephant slipper for my birthday.
They waited most all day for me to ask where the other one was. I didn’t ask, and prayed there wouldn’t be another one. But, before the day was over, they produced the other one. They said I said to divide my present into 2 separate ones and so they did.
I graciously thanked them, but I just thought they were hideous, (the slippers, not the friends), and why would they spend good money for such childish slippers? In later years, they came in handy as I gave them to a grandchild.
And, now…I find that you went out and bought bunny ones. This just goes to show that some people enjoy the fun things of life and some, like myself, who didn’t have much, wanted something more beautiful and useful on my feet. (Thank you for that.)
It takes all of us, I guess, to fill up God’s earth. I hope you get many happy day’s, or night’s, wear from them before the doggies decide they’re fair game.
Enjoy your trip and the gorgeous men.

that you’re an Elvis fan like me.

Your Elvis bank and bunny slippers sound like just the trick! Enjoy your trip to Dodge City. If I am not mistaken the Eisenhower Museum and Presidential library are there as well. As a young girl Scout i took the train from Union Station in KCMO to Dodge City for a field trip. The museum and library were amazing. Of course being that close you should hop on up to KCMO and sample some of the worlds best Bar-B-Que and take in the Plaza and Nelson Atkins. I hope that Elvis keeps you smiling and your slippers keep you warm and comfy.
