Linda Lael Miller Scholarships for Women – 2010
The 2010 Linda Lael Miller Scholarships for Women program has closed. Finalists will be notified by Oct. 30, 2010. Winners will be announced Dec. 15, 2010.
Official rules:
1. No purchase is necessary to apply.
2. The scholarship program is open to women 25 years old or older as of May 1, 2010, and who are legal residents of the United States or Canada. Linda Lael Miller reserves the right to make exceptions and award scholarships to applicants who are younger than 25.
3. To apply, please submit: An official application form (Adobe PDF) or (MS Word) and a 500-word maximum, typed essay.
The essay must include:
Why you are applying for a Linda Lael Miller Scholarship for Women;
How achieving your educational goals will enhance your and your family’s future;
The specific purpose for which you would use the funds;
The dollar amount you are seeking in a Linda Lael Miller Scholarship.
4. Applicants may request funding for tuition and fees, educational supplies, child care, transportation expenses or other education-related costs.
5. Essays will be judged on readability, demonstration of commitment to the applicant’s education and/or career, and the possible impact of the scholarship on the life of the recipient, her family and/or her community.
6. Finalists may be asked to provide proof of enrollment, documentation of coursework, educational acceptance, and/or other information related to the essay.
7. For the 2010 scholarship program, a total of $15,000 in scholarships will be awarded. The scholarship committee will determine the number of scholarships to be disbursed. All amounts are in U.S. dollars.

9. Please submit only one application per person for the 2010 program.
10. Applications must be received by 5 p.m. CST September 1, 2010, to be considered. Early entry is recommended. Finalists will be notified on or before October 30, 2010. Winners will be announced on or before December 15, 2010. Recipients’ funds will be awarded after school enrollment is verified.
11. Linda Lael Miller and Nancy Berland Public Relations, Inc., will not be responsible for lost, stolen, or misdirected mail, or applications that arrive after the deadline.
12. A fund will be established in each recipient’s name. From this fund a check or checks will be issued by the Linda Lael Miller Scholarships for Women business manager directly to 1) the registrar or other appropriate official at the educational institution which the recipient will attend, 2) a bookstore for payment of textbooks, supplies and equipment required for classes, and/or 3) the accredited child care facility which the recipient’s child or children will attend while the recipient is attending school. If the recipient wants to use all or part of her scholarship for transportation expenses, the scholarship fund business manager will purchase pre-paid cards and provide these to the winner. The business manager will exercise final judgment regarding disbursement of a winner’s funds on expenses specified or any other expenses that a winner asks to be considered, and winners are bound by the business manager’s decision. The balance in a recipient’s fund not used for these specified expenses by December 31, 2011, will revert to the Linda Lael Miller Scholarships for Women fund for future scholarships.
13. Scholarship awards are not transferable and may not be substituted. All scholarship funds will be awarded. All federal, state and local taxes are the responsibility of the winners. Winners may be notified by email, mail and/or phone and may be required to execute and return an Affidavit of Eligibility and Release within 15 days of attempted notification, or an alternate winner may be selected.
14. Employees of Nancy Berland Public Relations, Inc., and Harlequin Enterprises, their subsidiaries and their families living in the same household are not eligible to apply.
15. Applications become the property of Linda Lael Miller, and she will own all rights to all applications received. Applications will not be returned. All applications must be the sole property of the applicant. Applications must be an original work of the applicant and must not have been previously published or have won any awards.
16. For residents of Quebec, any litigation respecting the conduct and awarding of a prize in this scholarship program may be submitted to the Regie des Loteries et Courses du Quebec.
17. Winners grant Linda Lael Miller the right to use their name, likeness, essay and application for any advertising, promotion and/or publicity purposes without further compensation to or permission from the winner, except where prohibited by law.
18. By entering program, the applicant agrees to release Linda Lael Miller, the business manager, Nancy Berland Public Relations, Inc., and their directors, employees, officers and agents, from any and all liability, loss or damages arising from, or in connection with, the judging of this contest, the decision to award scholarships, and the awarding, receipt, and/or use of misuse of prize. Applicant further agrees that any and all claims, disputes or actions arising out of or connected with this contest shall be resolved individually, without resort to class action, exclusively in a court of competent jurisdiction sitting in Spokane County, Washington.
19. Names of winners will be posted on www.LindaLaelMiller.com after December 15, 2010.
