Happy Independence Day!

Since my summer blog schedule seems to be a bit sketchy, and since I wanted to wish you the best Fourth of July ever, here I am, blogging on a Saturday.

Here in our area, the grass is dry as tinder and there is an ever-present danger of fire.  For that reason, there will be no fireworks set off on the Triple L.  The heat is enervating, so Bernice, Jitterbug and I will be staying inside, where it’s cool.

Which DOESN’T mean we won’t be celebrating liberty and all its blessings.  :)  We’re just setting off sparklers in our hearts instead of the yard.  :)

In these troubled times, it would be easy to become discouraged with phrases like, “Liberty and Justice for all”, because so often that doesn’t seem to be the case.  Humbly, I offer this: Liberty, like life, is about the journey, not just the destination.  The important thing is to keep working toward the ideals our forefathers set down in the Declaration of Independence and the Bill of Rights–there were obvious flaws in the follow-through, then as now, but a beginning was made.  Generations of brave souls have defended the Great Experiment with their blood, sweat, toil and tears, and I am thankful to them every day of my life and, of course, to those who defend us today, in this moment.  Our part?  To keep on working toward the highest and best America we can conceive of.

We, the people…

We can do this.  We can do whatever we need to do.

And now I’ll jump down off my soapbox–but not before I say it once again.

Happy Independence Day.

Very beautifully said, Linda!!! That’s why you’re the writer and I’m the not-er.

I pray you and all of yours have a very happy and safe 4th of July!

I’m-a-fixen`-to eat a slice of watermelon. That’s as close to celebrating, outside my heart and mind that I can get.

    Take care!

For once here in Kansas we have had rain and it’s not so dangerous to do the fireworks. They’ve been going off for a week. We’ve already been to watch the grandkids ride bikes in the neighborhood parade led by a fire truck. Still have a cookout and nightworks to go. God Bless America!!

Happy Independence Day to you as well. Its raining in northern New Jersey today but that didn’t stop me from taking my 2 year old daughter into town for the reading of the Declaration of Independence. We did skip the parade though cuz we were both soaked thru. Enjoy your day and Happy Birthday America!

My sentiments exactly! It is cloudy and humid in Reno today 70% chance of rain, thunder and lightening. Our Golden goes crazy in heavy rain and thunder. He can anticipate it before it actually happens. So sad to see him shake all over with fear.

Happy Independence Day! We were dry here also but have made up for it this past week, so lots of fire works going off here. We have been having flash floods this past week, had a warning yesterday for flash floods. Its either dry or raining to much here.

I love your way of thinking about our Independence Day! I would imagine in some ways, our forefathers are shaking their heads, but also seeing the mistakes they made. After all, that is history. Happy July 4 to you & all your fans. Just hope we can all think things through & get it on the right path. Our country needs that!

Thank you, Linda for the best wishes for our country and its citizens. I am with you all the way. Forgive the past and work toward improving the future. Remember our founders’ goals and continue to work toward them.

My husband and I watched 1776 on TV this afternoon. We celebrate the country’s birthday by watching it whenever we have the chance. It reminds us that our founders were just men, with their strengths and weaknesses, but they were brave men who acted toward the country’s good as they saw it. And they learned to COMPROMISE. I’m afraid that compromise is a skill that is much forgotten in these days.

I add my best wishes for the country and for its citizens.

For the first time in the 23 years I’ve lived in my neighborhood,
I did not hear one firecracker. Amazing! I give kudos to the
people who listened to the warnings and took it to heart. Thank
you for your message, Linda. We are so blessed. I’m a day
late, but I hope You had a great Independence Day. I spent
the day in front of the air conditioner watching “Independence
Day” for the umpteenth time. Love that movie.

You said it so well…your Independence Day “soapbox” speech. Your words speak what is in my heart, as well. I agree that liberty and justice is about the journey toward wholeness…and because we are human…nothing we say or do will ever be perfect…we can only strive to be better in every way, every day. Thank you.

Your Independence Day speech was very well said in my opinion. Though there is still injustice in our country, what makes us unique is the ideals that the forefathers proclaimed a couple hundred years ago. We are slowly moving closer to those ideals as a nation. There will always be those who choose not to be noble. We cannot let that discourage us.
May God continue to bless America.
