Who is my favorite cowboy? In the case of "real life" I would have to say men like Charles Goodnight and John Chisum. The rugged men who drove the cattle trails and worked with the horses and cattle.

In the case of movie cowboys, I have two. First and foremost, John Wayne. If for no other reason than the movies McKlintock and The Cowboys. Second choice is Tom Selleck. He continues the tradition of making western movies.

These 4 men are also honored by The National Western Heritage Hall of Fame in Okalahoma City. They are amongst many of my other favorites.

In regards to fictional/books, I would chose any of the Creeds or McKettricks.

I also love the western movies of Sam Elliott and Robert Duval.

So many good choices makes it difficult.

Wow that is hard to pick. I love the movie and TV men: John Wayne, Same Elliott, Tom Selleck,Roy Rogers and the Cartright men from Bonanza. From fiction I love the Mckettrick men and the Creed men. Living in the City not near cowboys I have only my books, TV and movies to go by. Keep the cowboys coming Linda I really enjoy reading about them.

When I think about cowboys, I think about all the oldmovies I watched with my dad and grandpa as a kid. The John Wayne, Clint Eastwood, and one of my favorites, Snowy river and return to snowey river.

But I would have to say my all time favorite cowboy is Luke Perry when he played as Lane Frost in 8 seconds. I cry everytime I see that movie. I think I like it so much because its not just a movie, but its based on a true story.

Book to be done by the weekend then!! Good going! Can't wait for it.

I have so many "favorite" cowboys, but I suppose of the more recent ones it would have to be Holt McKetrick. :)

Modern day, I would have to agree about Sam Elliott but have to also add, John Wayne, James Garner, Clint Walker and Rex Allen Sr. I never had to pleasure of meeting any of them, but when I think of Roy & Dale - they were the best. I had the pleasure of meeting them several times when I lived in Calif. and they were always, and I mean always, the greatest to the kids and adults who adored them when they ran into them somewhere. I was lucky enough to live not that far from where they lived in Apple Valley, CA and would run into them in the mall from time to time. Always friendly and very eager to visit with you.
Then there are the McKettricks and the Creeds - I keep thinking I'd be in hog heaven if they were just real and I could move where they are and get to know them. How cool would that be. I just can't decide who my fave is.

I must agree that Patrick Swazye and Sam Elliot are at the top of my list of favorite cowboy's, but I have to go with Angus McKittirck as my all time favorite and his sons and grandsons after him. I recall the way he raised his three boys to be strong but gentle men just like him. Angus put on a big tough outer shell, but was a softy at heart.

Thank you Linda for your prayers for the people involved with hurricane Sandy of which I am one. I live on Long Island, NY and the coast line is just destroyed. I thankfully have power, but 3/4 of Long Island still is in the dark and some are still under water.

Keep up the good writing in Parable, can't wait for the next book to come out.
