Linda, I didn't know which Blog I was supposed to put this in, since this was the latest, I just put it in both of them. And, I realized it was waaaay long when I had it entered. Sorry about that.

I don't think we even knew there was such a thing as Trick or Treating way back when I was a child, and we lived way out in the country, anyway...no matter where we lived.

But, the funniest, and only, one I do remember was when my cousin and I were around 12 to 14 and we decided to go one night. We had no custumes, but we went to a house that sat back from the street and on a rise. I'd always thought the people who lived there had to be rich and very "uppity". (I didn't know what sophisticated was back then.)

Scared to death, as it was already getting dark, going to a house we'd never been to, not knowing if there were dogs running loose that might bite...we marched bravely on to the front door, rang the bell and waited.

Someone came to the door, invited us in and took us to the kitchen. I think there were 2 older ladies, and it seems as if there was a man, but one of these, according to us, "uppity" ladies, didn't have any teeth. They gave us an apple and offered us some water, so I took the water and as I walked to the sink, there was the "uppity" lady's teeth in a glass on the sink. I'd never seen anyone's teeth in a glass before.

I left, figuring "uppity" people kept their teeth in their mouth and not in glasses sitting around. I didn't think they were so uppity, anymore. And, I'll never forget my first trick or treating trip.

When my children were little, I didn't take them to many houses as it was about that time that evil people started putting razors and things in the candy and apples. I usually just took them to businesses around town who stayed open for the kids.

They liked to go to this one store about a mile from our house because the people were always giving them candy and at Holloween, they really handed it out. The children loved that.

Sadly, that couple died in a house fire last night, and I pray their kindness to all the children gets them a bigger mansion in Heaven.

I think its wonderful that you love writing. When you love your work it just makes life more enjoyable.

As to the Mayans. I can not believe how their brief story here on earth has been so twisted by the uninformed. Their calender ended because of enviromental changes, disease, depletion of natural resources and war. They did not just up and disappear off the face of the earth either, like so many claim, they were absorbed into small villages and tribes. Migration was necessary to survival.

Ugh, channeling cultural history books again! Sorry.
Enjoy your weekend. I am on pins and needles here waiting for your next book.

Good for you, Linda!! Glad to hear you're still on track. :)

We just had a clap of thunder here that sounded like an empty dump truck going end-over-end right toward the house! I'm not afraid of thunder but this one was so long, loud, and moving over so fast that I had a second of indecision! I suppose if it had been that truck the wall behind me would have collapsed before I moved. :-D

Yes, congrats to the winners! Your new schedule seems to agree with you by evidence of the work getting done, & your boundless enthusiasm, but then you always have endless energy :-). I grew up with those songs, too, like you mentioned, Big Girls Don't Cry, & so many others. I'll be thinking (enviously)of you Saturday night! ENJOY!! My favorite 4 Season's song, why Sherry, Sherry Baby, of course!!
Blessings,

Congratulations on meeting your quota! But, if you're on a roll and really into the story, how can you bear to leave it till another day? :)
